Every writer needs an editor, and even editors need an editor. So, let me
be yours.

You've been staring at your work in progress long enough that you're now cross-eyed. The opening felt strong at one point, and there's that one paragraph that seemed to flow fine late last night, but simple doesn't make sense in the light of day. Now, it's all become so familiar that the problems have blended into the background. At a certain point, a fresh pair of trained eyes is the only solution to move the piece forward.

The Editorial Review is a one-on-one editorial service for a single piece of writing, open to any writer at any stage. You submit your draft, and I bring nearly two decades of writing and editorial experience to it. This service is designed to help you sharpen your focus with a professional editor who helps you bring your work across the finish line yourself. The voice stays yours. The work is all yours. What changes is your ability to see the work with a clarity that only comes from a set of trained eyes.

Writing and business coach and mentor Gentrye Houghton with The Writing Cultivator journaling with a cup of coffee.

How the review process works

Step by step...

Submit your draft (up to 1,500 words sent via Google Docs) and return the brief goal sheet, which helps me better understand your intention and struggles.

Your coach, Gentrye, will return a written Diagnostic Memo with her analysis of your draft, including a clear breakdown of its strengths, structural challenges, and specifics on the priority areas to address.

You'll also receive detailed inline feedback via the Google Doc, with specific and actionable notes on structure, voice, flow, and language throughout.

Then, you'll revise your draft based on the feedback, at your own pace.

Finally, meet Gentrye for one focused 45-minute live call to review the revision, address any remaining questions, and confirm the piece is perfectly polished.

After the call, you'll receive a personalized take away with two to three areas of ongoing growth and exercises to carry into your future writing.

This is for you if...

You have a draft between 800 - 1,500 words that feels stuck, unfinished, or just isn't quite there yet.

You are a writer, aspiring, emerging, or already working professionally, with something to say and a piece that needs a little nudge to say it better.

You are looking to grow your writing through the work itself, with honest critique and actionable feedback.

You are ready for honest, specific feedback and growth from a professional editor who's spent nearly a decade helping writers sculpt their pieces into publishing shape.

"The voice stays yours. The work is all yours. What changes is your ability to see the work with a clarity that only comes from a set of trained eyes."
